think twice before etoro
Well yes, 4 months of trading. Here are the highlights.
Advantages: Platform is neat looking and offers a few advantages. Mainly the ability to set your leverage. Most brokers that work via MT4 (a more reliable platform altogether) do not offer this choice.
Disadvantages: Certain elements struck me as strange dating back to my first day of trading with them. I could have abanodonned the site instantly but gave them the benefit of the doubt as the etoro site looked quite professional. I believed that the whole company could not possibly be a scam. (now I am getting more and more convinced that certain elements are very suspicious. Possibly deliberate ie.scam or if they not deliberate, then they are hazardously inefficient resulting with the same effect..my money loss. I will explain...
Security: The important issue initially struck me as "strange" when I made my first deposit was that when the etoro application diverted me to Paypal (this was my chosen form of payment) it did it from within its own application and not in a browser like ie or mozilla. Companies that use https encryption always warn you to check the address url that you are on to make sure that your details (eg paypal info and password) are not being diverted through a third party. Etoro is this third party and I was even more convinced as every time I made a deposite, Paypal would ask me to enter the password twice for nor reason!! Futhermore my firewall (zone-alarm) and antivirus (avg pro) would throw warnings telling me of suspicious behavior and that a program was trying to access/record key-strokes on my PC!!! But being benevolent, I continued t see what etoro was really about - taking one precaution - (to keep changing my Paypal password as it was clear that etoro was most likely recording it)
Opening/closing trades: Noone wants to trade at 5 in the morning when there is rarely any serious action. etoro performs best during this time. However the frustration of opening a trade through e-toro during high-volume hours can give you a heart attack. It was commonplace for me to "lose control" over my open trades (one or multiple) if there was any sudden movement of interest in the market. The application (a very pretty but extremely unstable platform) either freezes (prices dont move) or logs you out!! I rememebr being stuck on the phone with another memeber I met through the etoro forum who was literally crying and telling me that she hadnt been able to access 4 open trades for over 5 hours! At that time etoro wasn't signing anyone in at all and I felt very relieved that by chance I did not have any open trades myself.
I believe that even the most professional trader doesn't always win money in every trade. You win some, you loose some. However if the ratio of winning is higher (even slightly higher) you end up winning. So the lines are fine and in ten trades you need to be correct in at least 6 or 7 for the trading to make any sense at all. From my experience on e-toro, I found that system mess-ups, outages and the simple lag in entering a trade 10 or sometimes even 30 pips out of market simply messed things up. This made all the difference reducing my chance of winning significantly. Alot of the times my predictions were correct (based on charting with other platforms like MT4) but etoro would simply not execute them. Therefore reducing my win/lose ratio below 5. I complained several times, once or twice they compensated me with the money lost from certain trades but the effort in doing this and calling them all the time with full details is tremendous. And thats only if they accept that it was their fault. Most of the time they denied any system failure at all.
Withdrawing money: I cannot say I had the priviledge of ever cashing money back from etoro so I do not know how fast/effective the process is. I do know that when I found myself with a very large profit it my account from succesful trades, someone who called themself my "account manager" was sure to call me and tell me "well done", and to advise me "not to withdraw my profits yet, as was doing so excellently and could multiply my winnings" Naturally I lost everything and should never have listened to this advice.
Tools and Charting: Charting and historic data is very limitted. Tools such as fibo retractments work at their own will (sometimes do and sometimes dont). Within 4 months of trading (between 20 and 200 lots per week) there were more than 5 occassions (lasting upto 24 hours) when the graph data was significantly destorted missing 'chunks' of upto 2 days of data. Thus any unaware user who assumed (quite naturally) that the data was accurate was 'doomed' to a great disadvantage, plotting innacurate resistance points, diagonal sup/res lines etc. quite messy. I contacted them about this and they didnt seem to understand what i was talking about! All users having the same problem chatting via the forum did however..
However the good news is (apart from adjusting leverage) that there is also a forum where people chat. You hear alot of complaining there and can get an idea about the quality of the service. If you chat to people you kind of realize their level of experience in trading and it was clear to me that most people are beginners and simply drawn to etoro because of the nice simpilified interface.

You’ve probably heard of Forex brokers ripping off their clients by using various dirty tricks. Some of the most common ones are: stop hunting, requoting, widening the spread to some ridiculous number, software disconnects, lagging/fraudulent price quotes, unfilled orders, and account banning. Yes, they will politely (sometimes not so politely) tell you to bugger off if you’re consistently profitable.
Experienced traders already know the games dealing desk forex brokers play. Having said that my advice is this:. Stick to only so called “reputable” brokers. Most of brokers you know are cheaters. If you are TRUE forex trader ,I will recommend you one.Try http://www.masterforex.org and feel the difference
I am managing $120000 account earn 25-45 percent month.I tried others but they riffed me a lot. http://www.masterforex.org is best for me

Re: Etoto - The Revolutionary Forex Trading Platform
Hi All! This is Adam from the eToro team, here is a link to my openbook profile: https://openbook.etoro.com/adamsetoro/
I see that this is a really old post. Things have quite changed in eToro in the past few years. As eToro is ever growing and is now the largest social investments network, most traders come to follow and copy others in eToro.
I understand the complains above from a few years ago- indeed there have been a few stability problems in the past during high volatility. But I ensure you that we did and still are doing our best to ensure top performance. But don't take this from me, as we are a social investment network, you can talk with any trader on the platform and ask what they think.
Feel free also to stop by my profile and ask if you have any questions.
